I am not very good at poetry at all - it's actually my least favorite genre to write in. I've only ever written poetry when it was required of me, but this is one of the only poems I've ever written of my own free will. I wrote it back in 2022, and it still means a lot to me.I've found a home
in every soul I've encountered.
Some homes offered
only momentary respite.
Some homes had hallways
so vast, I feared I'd get lost,
in their twists and turns.
But I always found my way
back to safety.
Some homes had doors
locked and bolted shut
too tightly for me to open.
Some homes had dogs
barking loudly, aggressively,
in their yards -
but that did not deter me.
Some homes had fireplaces
where I could keep myself warm
if only for the night to pass.
Some homes I thought I'd never leave
despite the walls caving in around me.
My favorite homes
have been the ones
with the chipped paint on their walls,
but the lights always on.
Sometimes I wonder
what kind of home I've yet to encounter,
and what kind of home others
have found in me.
