Fall Crafting Ideas & Cozy Reads: What I’m Creating This Autumn

A photograph of some aisles in Michael's Craft Store with shelves lined with stuffed ghosts, pumpkins, black cats, and other Halloween-themed memorabilia.

Lately, my head has been swimming with pumpkin orange and chai-spiced fall crafting ideas - I feel like I could burst into a pile of leaves at any given second! I struggle especially hard with my mental health in the summer months, and while the weather doesn't seem to be ready to cool down any time soon in my neck of the woods, the leaves are already starting to turn and stores are pulling out all of their fall decor. That can only mean one thing: I am coming alive again, slowly, bit by bit. I couldn't have picked a better time to settle in and focus on my creative passions. I'm so excited to share them with you!

A photo of a red and orange dried leaf held up against white flowers.

To be honest, I haven't felt very inspired when it comes to clay these past few months. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but I'm contributing my sudden surge of inspiration to when I stumbled upon Bonnie Barton on Instagram and fell down a little rabbit hole of fellow autumn-loving creators. I don't want to be cliche here, but to say pumpkins won't be involved in my projects this month would definitely be a lie. I'll try to keep them from taking over, but it's gonna be difficult. Here's a lil peek at the fall palette I'm excited to work with: pumpkin orange, sage green, cinnamon brown, and a few cozy neutrals that remind you of pumpkin patches and warm sweaters.

Rolls of clay sit on a glass table. There is a tan color, cinnamon brown, white, dark teal, pumpkin spice orange, and an off-white. Above them sits scraps of yellow, red, and blue clay.

Right now, these ideas are just rolls of clay, but I already have an idea of how I want them to take shape. I'm going to try out something new this month, and I can't wait to show you how it turns out and what I learned along the way.

Fall marks the beginning of the coziest months of the year, and what is more comforting a yummy treat and a wonderful story? I've got a pretty neat book on my list for this month. It isn't particularly "fall-coded", but I think it'll be enjoyable nonetheless. Think dark academia, forests, magical beings, and a touch of found family. I think it's a great selection to kick off the season.

The book A Language of Dragons by S.F. Williamson is being held up against a tree with red flowers and the blue sky. The cover of the book is gold with a dragon.

I mentioned yummy treats, didn't I? Don't worry, I'm not planning on leaving you hanging. I've got a recipe to share with you - it can be simple or indulgent - that I think you'll love (bonus points: it'll be easy to eat while reading a book). It's flakey, sweet, warm, and spiced. Exactly like fall!

Some cinnamon apple twist pastries sit on an orange pumpkin shaped plate. There is a candle, fall leaves, and fake pumpkins in the background.

If you could peek inside my brain right now, it might look a lot like my Autumn Basket Pinterest board; a jumble of warm colors, cozy corners, and ideas just waiting to be made. Take a look here:

A screencap of a fall themed Pinterest board. There are images with prose dedicated to September, cinnamon rolls and other fall treats, fall leaves, pumpkins, etc.

So this is how I'm easing into the Autumn season. It sounds a little like I'm hitting the ground running, but I intend for September to have a gentle rhythm of baking, crafting, and reading. I have a lot of ideas, but no pressure. I'd love to hear what's inspiring you this season. 🍁

xoxo, Emilie

This blog is my journal of all the blooms along the way. I hope we can laugh, cry, and grow together. ♡
